A recent report from ABTA found that one in five people travel abroad without travel insurance, and a third of those are in the 16-24 age bracket. Many travellers incorrectly assume that they can turn to the UK government for help if they fall ill overseas.
We, at Holsure, urge travellers to be sure of what cover they have.
Buying cover a few days before or even on the day as many do, means that if the trip is cancelled there may be no cover or an inappropriate cover may be taken - i.e. one which does not cover extreme sports or other activities they take part in on their travels.
On the extended travel that often takes place during gap year trips it is vital that adequate cover is arranged. Activities and destinations should be comprehensively covered to ensure that there are no gaps in cover and no nasty surprises are encountered while trying to claim...With adventure sports such as quad biking, white water rafting and jet boating becoming increasingly popular, it is vital that travellers are sufficiently covered for these more high-risk activities.
