European Health Insurance Card

Some Facts about EHIC

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is freely available on the NHS and allows free or discounted medical care in 27 European Union Countries plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Lichenstein, yet more than 50 percent of the population in the UK don't have one.

If you are in Europe and have your EHIC card with you, you are entitled to the same State Medical Treatment that local citizens are entitled to - this is extremely useful in emergencies, but does not by any means cover you fully and comprehensively as a Good Travel Insurance Policy would.

The card is valid for 5 years, so if you have one please check its expiry date - and don't forget to renew it and take it with you on your trips to Europe.

All UK residents, other than those residing in The Isle of Man or The Channel Islands are covered.

The card is FREE from the NHS - some other companies may charge you, so go direct to the NHS by the link below.
